Have been eying awning options. Really really really like the idea of one of the 270 free standing batwings. Really really really REALLY do NOT like the prices of them. Also… the coverage seems lacking. I saw someone talking about a slumberjack on here a few months ago and stuck one in “buy later” list on Amazon and kept almost buying it. Then not.
The price wasn’t the problem. I hate things that take time to setup and this thing looks awesome…. after it is setup. The setup with the poles and tension just screams PITA to me. And it may well be. But I have to say the end results were pretty nice.
For the test setup I did it myself, just went with the card they had and didn’t watch any videos or anything. It was fairly gusty so not ideal circumstances. And it went up pretty easily. Easier than fishing poles into the sleeves on my ground tent.
Something that surprised me. If you look at the shadow you can see I setup fairly poorly for actual shade. However, It was long enough that you could sit on the bumper or in a chair back towards the vehicle that you still had shade for your eyes. With a batwing in this situation I would only have been shielded when standing up right next to the vehicle.
Tarp is good quality. Love the straps for hooking through wheel spokes.
Take down was SUPER fast. I forgot I had it setup and was running late to go somewhere. Pulled up stakes, folded up poles, shoved the tarp in the box in the back and we were off in like 2 minutes. Might take 5 when doing a proper fold/roll up of the tarp. But this may live in a roof rack box so may not need to be fussy with it. Setup was probably a leisurely 15min or so… I imagine it would be 5ish with two folks that know what they are doing. 5-10 depending on the wind for a solo setup.
