4th Gen (2013-2018) Rav4 RTT and Crossbar weight rating : overlanding

Hello,

I have a 2018 Rav4 and I recently ordered an aluminum clamshell RTT for another vehicle. Has anyone had experience with 140-150lb clamshell tents on this generation of Rav4? If so, may I ask what crossbars you are using? I know the factory crossbars will not work at all. I’m planning on using Rhinorack’s Vortex SX system as that is what my other vehicle is using for a custom track system.

The Rav4 does not really have a roof rail weight rating as it only rates their OEM crossbar – to a measly 102lb. The Rhinorack Vortex SX seems to be rated up to 220lb depending on the vehicle manufacturer. I plan on having an awning in the future too, would 160-170lb be asking too much from the Rav4 or the Rhinorack Vortex SX system?

Thanks!
