Building an app for VanLifers to make travel safer! What do you want to see in it? Would you use it? : overlanding

Hey all!

My name’s Odin (yes, really!). I’m working on an app to provide safe places for VanLifers to spend the night in their vehicles (like private parking lots with some of the basics like showers, laundry, wifi, etc.) and I’d be endlessly grateful for some feedback!

I want to make this as relevant to VanLifers as possible, so if there’s anything you’d like to see in one of these spots, I’d love to hear it all! I’ll try to include as much as possible 🙂

Spare no details! What you’d like to see at one of these spots, specific services that are hard to find on the road, or ways to make finding parking spots easier, maybe some food options, that type of stuff!

It’s called Trippy (Would love to hear your thoughts on the name too!).

Here’s some rough sketches of a roadtrip saved by Trippy:

Walmarts and street parking can be sketchy…especially for new vanlifers.

Here’s a sketch of what the Trippy experience looks like right now:

What amenities would you like to see?

The app itself has 3 sections: Book, Plan, Chat.

  1. Book a spot, like a bring-your-own-bed hotel room. Self check-in and check-outs, with attendants on call to help you with whatever you need!

  2. Plan a trip, organize your next great adventure without having to worry where to spend the night in between destinations.

  3. Chat with fellow travelers in the app. Join chats about where to go next, how to prepare for trips, meet up on the way, swap gear, anything!

Here’s what the app design is looking like right now:

You can pick a few options and book a spot for the night on the fly. Check yourself in at the gate (like a parking garage), plus you automatically get directions to the lot.

You can also plan roadtrips and chat with fellow Trippy users (Trippies? Trippeeps?):

Plan a new adventure, reflect on past trips, share your travels, all on the go, wherever you go!

So…what do you think?

If you made it this far…thank you!

Safe travels,
Odin
