Just bought a Jeep Wrangler and plan on doing a lot of overlanding and camping this summer, and have some questions? : overlanding

Hi all,

I was directed here for these questions. I just bought a Jeep Wrangler JK 2018, 2-door hard top. I live in CO and plan on doing lots of camping and outdoor adventure with it this summer. I have a few questions on gear needed to do so, specifically to fit my wrangler. I’m a newbie to this so apologies for sounding like such ahead of time.

My biggest and most important question is on the roof racks and roof tents. I am currently looking at the below tent:

https://www.rei.com/product/189030/thule-tepui-foothill-tent?sku=1890300001&store=18&cm_mmc=PLA_Google%7C21700000001700551_1890300001%7C92700057782297532%7CNB%7C71700000074092887&gclid=CjwKCAjwoduRBhA4EiwACL5RP_OsEkApIptBIr38NIud8zbJkINxaYQjZelLuOshAu5xn-2LV4HLLxoCulgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

But am unsure of whether or not this will fit ok on my 2-door, as it says the length is 83 inches and the roof of my wrangle is 73 inches. Is it ok to have some overhang? Are there better tents for a 2-door out there? I want something smaller for one-two persons as it’s just me. I really liked the look and size of this tent. I also like the idea of holding both the tent and something else.

Secondly, what rack can hold these tents? I called REI and have googled, and it seems like there’s a lot of options. I’m somewhat on a budget so I’m looking into a more affordable one that can handle the tents.

Other than the roof top tent, any other suggestions on gear or installs would be appreciated. I already bought and installed the tailgate table. I would like an awning, but probably will wait on that unless there’s a good one for a good price. I may just buy a cheap regular awning and tie it to the jeep when I’m out in the mountains to save money, rather than one that attaches.

Any other suggestions appreciated!
