I built out my Jeep JKU Overlanding build over hte pandemic, and I’ve really enjoyed it. However, I’m planning a long distance (driving from the northeast US to TN and into the west a bit, then back up, stopping for hikes and overnight backpacking) trip for the next year, and I’d like to be able to leave my campsite behind and go shopping, dinner, visiting, offroading, whatever.
I’m looking for pointers / ideas on what base I should be using to build a trailer to hold my camping gear and mount my RTT to. I’d like to have something that allows for a lift mechanism for the tent (which would enable my annex tent and other camping setups).
I’m handy enough to do my own build / construction / welds / etc, and in fact have one of the harbor freight ‘folding’ trailers available, but that seems far too underweight
I’ve considered M101 trailers, but a) they’re expensive as heck, b) require a complete rework of the suspension and hitch, and c) hard to find. (M105 trailers are easier to get, but they’re VERY wide. 83″. My jeep is only 73″ wide.)
Suggestions for builds / platforms / ideas are welcome!
