Oh Lord No—Skiers Stuck on Lift Blasted With Freezing Water

At Beech Mountain, in North Carolina, two skiers were hospitalized, and others hurt when, unimaginably, a water pipe burst directly below the chairlift, jetting forced water dozens of feet high. That’s, well, it’s almost impossible levels of suck. Apparently someone skied into and broke a hydrant somewhere on the line, which resulted in this massive leak shooting water into the chairlift, blasting at least a few skiers out of their chair and onto the deck.

The lift was stopped, which, of course. But, in a near worst-case scenario for a couple skiers, one chair halted right above the burst pipe. This has to be about as uncomfortable as it gets. Trapped, freezing and wet, blasted by water, totally confused. The resort apologized for skiers “getting wet.” Getting. Wet. That’s putting it almost criminally lightly.

Here’s a longer video, where you can see the lift coming to a stop, and people frantically trying to free the stuck skier(s?).
