Has anyone attempted to mount an extendable awning under their Rooftop Tent and cut a hole for ladder access?
My girlfriend and I have a Thule Tepui Foothill attached to Evo wingbars on my Crosstrek, and we really love setting it up with the ladder/entry side facing camp as our little ‘front porch.’ We desperately need shade this summer in CA and we don’t like the standard solution of placing the shade canopy on the opposite side where you’d have to put your ladder and tent opening facing away from camp.
I’ve seen an option like the James Baroud Tunnel Awning that has a hole for ladder access through the awning to their specific RTT – I’d love to custom modify an awning to achieve something similar.
The obvious simple solution is to buy a normal freestanding shade structure and pitch it attached to the top of our tent, but first I’d really like to go for a fully integrated roof mounted solution if possible! Does anyone have any experience with something like this?
