I’m trying to see if this is doable, mainly concerned about the width of the trail and how steep the worst sections are. Most maps show that the majority of the road should be OK with a 2WD high clearance vehicle, with the only 4WD recommended section being a ~2.5mi section coming down Hunter Mountain into the Ulida Flat/Hidden Valley area. Most online info suggest that this route is more forgiving than taking Lippincott Pass, which I wouldn’t even consider. Most videos of Hunter Mountain show fairly mellow fireroad conditions.
Vehicle is a 1997 E450 (dually) without any lift. I’m fairly experienced with driving off road, and could bring a good amount of tools (tire kit, compressor, sockets, etc.), vehicle fluids, water, food, and a full sized spare with me should the SHTF. Vehicle will also be checked for any glaring issues before any attempt, especially the brakes. Tires are E rated all seasons, and I would air down a bit.
Would I be crazy to attempt this? Can anyone who has been there recently chime in on current road conditions?
Thanks in advance.
