The crocs in the river really add to the “don’t screw up” feeling : overlanding

This is Ivanhoe Crossing in the far North of Australia, one of the most famous river crossings. Usually you can see a ton of huge crocodiles right from your vehicle snapping up all the fish coming over the concrete crossing.

It has those pillars every now and then, but otherwise there is nothing stopping you putting a tire off the edge – one side the water is at least 6 feet deep, the other the drop is at least 6 feet. So it would be BAD either way.

The water was about a foot deep, and flowing fast, though I couldn’t feel it pulling on the steering.
