The first passenger cars became available in the wee early part of the 20th century, and seemingly ever since then, motorists have wondered: When the hell will the all-electric van, the Volkswagen ID Buzz, officially be revealed? We’ve written approximately 716 articles about the plucky electric bus in the past 5 or so years and we can finally say that, according to VW, this is officially (a computer rendering of) the officially official ID Buzz.
The van will go on sale in Europe this year. The American version will debut in 2023 and go on sale in 2024. We don’t know how different, if at all, the capabilities will be. The Euro version gets a 82 kWh battery juicing a 201 horsepower electric motor with 229 lb-ft of torque. There is a cargo version. There will be a long wheelbase version. There will be both 6 and 7-passenger configurations and removable seats. There will also be super fast charging options, refilling the electron tanks in 30 minutes. Range? No idea yet.
But by god, we finally know what this plucky little bus will look like. We can rest.
