Video: How to Tie a Lefty’s Deceiver for Tarpon, with Tom Rosenbauer

Tom Rosenbauer fishes almost exclusively with flies that he ties himself, and he’s no slouch at the vise. Last time he was in Belize with the folks from The New Fly Fisher, they shot some cool tying videos.

Here, Tom shows the version of the venerable Lefty’s Deceiver that he uses for tarpon. As Tom explains, the Deceiver isn’t really a specific pattern, but a method for tying a baitfish fly, and you can feel free to mess with materials and colors all you want. For tarpon, Tom like a Deceiver that offers a lot of undulation and “breathing” of materials in the water, and he ties in the saddle hackles accordingly.
