Video: How to Tie the CBC Green Machine

Depending on whom you talk to, the original Green Machine was created by one of two legendary New Brunswick fly tiers, Warren Duncan or John Lyons. (Perhaps someone out there has definitive answer for us?) Either way, it featured a spun deer-hair body and was designed to be fished wet, unlike a Bomber. While fishing in Newfoundland, Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions heard about this version of the pattern, which substitutes a floss body, making the tying process easier and faster. The result is a cool, buggy pattern that’s sure to draw strikes from salmonids of any kind, especially as they make their way up rivers to spawn.
