Currently in Australia, but will be spending time between Australia and the USA this year as my American wife and our kids have moved back there to be close to her family who haven’t met our youngest daughter – tl;dr COVID has made multi-country family life a nightmare!
In Australia, I have a 2013 Toyota Hilux (I purchased new) and love the setup based around a Camp King Industries Peak Tub Topper. Really practical and over 270,000km have had zero mechanical issues on the Hilux.
Do I stick with Toyota and go the Tacoma route – however, the platform is getting on. Other option would be a Ford Ranger, and while the diesel engine options here in AUS are fantastic, have no experience with the 2L petrol engine in the USA spec Ranger. Looking at base spec vehicles also – vinal floors if possible as easier to cleanout.
Fairly sure I’ll stick with the dual-cab/truck platform for its versatility. Would be looking at either the GFC Platform Camper or Camp King Industries Outback Series Camper.
Would also consider a Jeep Gladiator, but I think the base vehicle is just out of my budget.
Appreciate any thoughts from guys and gals in the States! ??
