Winterizing my roof top tent for $34 (two REI Mylar emergency blankets) : overlanding

So, I was searching YouTube for a viable way to insulate my hard shell fold out roof top tent. I’m fairly new to the RTT life, but have 5 years experience snow camping inside my vehicle. My first below freezing night in the tent sucked! Like many RTTs, the tent material is only 3 season. I nearly froze to death. The only thing keeping my body from going into hypothermia was my AC heated blanket. (By the way, I had a -25F Teton sports sleeping bag, which has kept me comfortable sleeping in my vehicle. The issue was the lack of insulation).

After that experience, I installed carpet tiles to improve insulation and eliminate condensation, but now my option to insulate the walls was $400!!!

I looked into cheaper options, and thought about how bums wrap their ground tents in $5 painted tarps. I brought that ghetto engineering and applied it to my $2500 RTT, and I’m happy to announce that IT WORKED!!

So for my shameless self promotion Friday post, here’s my video!
