How to Personalize Your Bow

We personalize our clothes, water bottles and cellphone cases, so why not style your bow to reflect your individuality?Archery equipment comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Buying a bow shouldn’t be based on color alone, but it doesn’t hurt to love the way it looks. If you wind up with a bow that’s not your style, it’s simple to customize it. Here are some fun and easy ways to personalize your archery gear.

Bowstrings

Bowstrings are made of synthetic fibers and come in endless color options. Changing them is one of the easiest ways to change the look and make a statement with your bow. From solid colors to two-tones and even rainbow, the options never end. There are several parts to a compound bowstring, including cables, and that provides even more opportunities for customization. Unless you own a bow press and have experience working on bows, however, you’ll need to visit an archery shop to have new bowstrings installed.

Wrist Slings

A wrist sling helps the archer gently hold the bow throughout the shot without worrying that it will fall once the arrow is released. Wrist slings come in a variety of colors and styles. From chunky to thin, they also come in different sizes. You can also add beading, charms, nametags or special messaging. Some archers even make their own wrist slings with paracord.

Accessories

Every accessory added to your bow is an opportunity to personalize your equipment not only to your shooting style, but also to your personal style. Choose your favorite rests, sights, quivers, stabilizers, bow grips, arm guards, noise dampeners and release aids.

Custom Colors

Bows come in many colors, but some archers want to shoot something one-of-a-kind. If you’re looking for a custom paint job, it’s best done by a professional or under the guidance of someone who knows what they’re doing. A custom paint job requires the bow to be dipped, powder-coated, painted and anodized. Sara Lopez, one of the world’s best compound-bow archers, has a one-of-a-kind bow. She shares her tips for getting the look here. Before painting your bow, check its warranty information because it might void the warranty. If you have questions, ask your local archery shop.

If this has inspired you to customize your equipment, head to your nearest archery shop. Staff can answer any questions, and they’ll be stocked with all the accessories needed to create a unique bow.
