POTD: Colt Police Positive Special

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a 1970 Colt Police Positive Special. This little beauty will be the topic of today’s and the next few week’s Curious Relics. The Police Positive Special was the peak design iteration of both the Colt New Police and the Colt Police Positive. The Police Positive Special featured the “positive” safety system which made it so the hammer cannot be dropped unless the hammer was first pulled fully to the rear. Aside from boring safety improvements the thing that made this double-action revolver truly special is that the frame was strengthened and the cylinder was lengthened to accommodate the newly popular and more powerful 38 Special cartridge. My personal Colt Police Positive Special is chambered for the 38 New Police cartridge (same as 38 Smith and Wesson) since this revolver was exported and issued to the Hong Kong Police.
